Would anyone be interested in some handmade earrings/bracelets?

LOTD 04 June 2013 Thick Thick Awesome Brows!

One day, I popped by Junry's to get my brows shaped and trimmed and basically let her work her magic hur hur.

This was the result:

Love love love it!

Have been drawing my brows much thicker nowadays (much to the dismay of some of my colleagues, but they have since gotten used to it 8-P). Can't quite get the hang of making the front part of the brows look so naturally 'faded' yet but I'm working on it heh heh.

Current favourite brow product is the K-palette 24h Real Lasting Eyebrow pen. Looking forward to trying out some Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products soon! =D

Quick Update!

Yes I am still ALIVE! Hahaha.

Sorry (to the 5, maybe 6 people still following me) for the long, long absence.

I do have so many things I want to blog about but I have been caught up with the usual hum drums of work life and being a gym rat. Ok, laziness is definitely a major player too.

I hope I will be more 'disciplined' and try to write something at least once a week.

See you again soon!

LOTD 30 November 2012 Back to School

So the theme for my company's D&D last year was 'Back to School' thus most people wore all permutations of the school uniform, from the typical kawaii high school plaid ensemble to CCA uniforms and even scrubs. My ex-boss, not wanting to waste money on useless costumes, came up with the brilliant idea of dressing up as Prom Kings & Queens. So smart right? All we had to do was to dig up whatever dresses/suits we had in our existing wardrobe and WALAH! Done.

After some googling for inspiration, I decided to base my look on these images:

Details of my 'costume':

I also went the DIY way and made some corsages, boutonnieres and sashes for my table mates.

I basically bought some fake flowers and glued them together hahaha. Quite nice right? 8-P

For the sashes, I just pasted some glittery 'foam paper' onto some thick white ribbons. By the way, there was no 'Miss Needy' it was 'Miss Nerdy' wahaha. Misplaced a letter LOL.

Here are some candid shots of me getting ready (courtesy of Sophia who very kindly came down to help do makeup for my colleague).

The food was kinda meh but at least the sashimi was quite fresh. I think I might have ingested a plate of main dish items but I can't quite remember oops.

Some hilarious pictures from that night (what is it with Japanese men and cross dressing huh? If you don't know what I'm talking about, refer to my post from last year):

Here's a close up of my face:

I cannot remember what I used though. Might re-create this look for fun maybe.

Prom queen meltdown much.

This year's theme is 'TV Series' and I haven't the faintest idea who I'm sitting with and what we're gonna dress up as. We'll see how it goes yar?

Hair History + Favourite Hair Products

If one's personality can be deduced from his/her hair texture, then mine would definitely be stubborn and irritable. And unrefined. Lol.

I have naturally wavy and coarse hair, which is partly hereditary as both my parents have thick and coarse hair too.

But I remember there was a time when I used to have silky straight hair while I was a kid. I guess puberty (and life) happened and almost overnight, my hair became barbed wire. And yes, I used to have rrreally short hair cos of my school's rules. Gross lor. The gold rimmed glasses didn't help my image one bit either. Boy, you should have seen the mushroom head I sported in lower secondary. Looked like an atomic bomb exploded around my head :( The picture below was after I gave up trying to keep the 'length' of my hair and just went short short short.

Wa kao dunno who is this auntie sia

After graduating from secondary school, I let my hair grow. For the longest time, I resisted rebonding my hair. I had seen too many examples of 'helmet heads' and did not want to become one myself. So I lived with my unruly hair for the better part of my younger years.

Sooo HOT right?! Ugh

However, in December 2008, during my 3rd trip to Taiwan, I decided to take the plunge and just do it. It helped that the price quoted to me was cheap but I seriously pitied the guys who had an extremely hard time ironing my hair straight. Think they really had a workout whilst pulling out 1/5 of my hair in the process haha.

In any case, there has been no turning back since then and I have been consistently rebonding my hair at least every 6 months.

Ok phew end of the epic history of my hair 8-P

So basically, you could say that I have straight-ish hair now which I like to curl (with a curling iron) on occasions when the mood strikes. And here are the current hair products that I use to tame my hair with.

Shampoo: John Frieda, Dove, Head & Shoulders

Conditioner: Dove, Essential, Lux

Others: Sexy Girl, Gatsby

So far I find that these products work pretty well for me right now but things are gonna change soon cos I intend to dye (possibly bleach) my hair in August. I am also toying with the idea of chopping my hair to collarbone length and getting side swept bangs. I will probably never have the courage to go as short as Kim though. She really carries off her new hairstyle very well!

We'll see how things go. Stay tuned!

Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill vs L'oreal Infaillable Eyeshadows

Now, before you rejoice and cheer, please note that there isn't really much of a comparison.

Granted, there are many (superficial) similarities (like the apparent texture and packaging, which is essentially that little piece of plastic lid cover thingy) but that's pretty much where they end.

As I've mentioned before, it's always nice if there are cheaper alternatives to high end products but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for (most of the time). There's usually a reason why they cost so much more yar? Of course I'm not saying that expensive stuff are definitely good and vice versa lah. There will always be exceptions obviously :)

Now let's look at L'oreal first shall we? First impression of the shadow is that it's a pigment, i.e. powder. And it does feel like a pigment, just maybe a little less dry and powdery if that makes any sense. It applies like a powder eyeshadow and if you're not careful, there's bound to be fall out. The overall effect is generally more like a sheer wash of colour. After maybe applying another 2 more layers, you'll get a nice colour going. However, don't expect anything crazy spectacular like glitter or duo-chrome shimmer/sheen or whatever. The more 'pastel' colours (031 & 036) were the most disappointing. But there were a few outstanding ones (024, 890 & 892) which were super pigmented and quite gorgeous really.

Now for Giorgio Armani. It also closely resembles a pigment and there is fall out too (as with most powdered eyeshadows). However, the application part feels quite different. It has an almost oily feel to it and the colour payoff is great. It is multi-dimensional with the right amount of glitter and is easy to blend and once it sets, doesn't budge even through sweat. Tried and tested, trust me. Totally worth the money, this one.

Ok I think that's enough rambling. Shall let the swatches speak for themselves. Enjoy.

FYI, I have previously done some swatches here and here.

June 2012 Taiwan Trip Day 4 - 8

Even as I am typing out this post, I am also preparing for our June 2013 Taiwan Trip which is happening, oh, only in about TWO DAYS' TIME. OMG.

Looking though last year's pictures are just making me well up with yearning and...the feeling is just indescribable.

So basically, the rest of our trip was filled with some random sight-seeing and lots and lots of FOOD.

It was drizzling, so we spent, like, 10 minutes there before we ja bok LOL!

I would suggest just trying their signature toast. Don't be too adventurous hahaha. Though the fruit teas and truffle fries were nice.

Night market eats are DA BOMB.

Ok ok this place ^^^ This place is so bloody awesome we went two days in a row. No joke. The salmon is OMGGG.

Spot me and Amy! Nooo we're NOT cats 8-P

Btw, do check out their KTV outlets cos it's so damn cheap! Yeah, that's me pretending to be the next Singapore Idol. Or maybe I was hungry *shrug*

Yup and that's it.

32 hours to go!!!

Catrice Cosmetics Haul

So after gym last Wednesday, I popped by the Guardian at Vivocity to check out this new brand of makeup that just hit our shores: Catrice Cosmetics.

According to the website, "Catrice is inspiration - stylish, vibrant, sensual, glamorous and always professional." Oh and it is under the same company (Cosnova Beauty) as Essence. No wonder it seemed vaguely familiar heh heh.

It wasn't hard to spot the standalone counter right smack in the middle of the front of the store.

I was initially intrigued by the lipglosses but decided to skip them for the other good stuff instead.

I only managed to do some rough swatching of the eyeliners, glosses, powder eyeshadows (which were a bit meh) and cream eyeshadows.

Ended up with these and none of them were more than $10! The most expensive item was the 24 gram bronzer which was $8.90 :)

I've used the nail polishes already and they come with huge flat brushes which were easy to use. The cream was a little streaky though. As for the rest of the products, will do an LOTD with them soon!
